He and his partner have one son, Nicky. Andrew, born 1968, also an historian, teaching at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. He is married to an Australian and they have three children. Derek, born 1970, is a poet, editor and founder of the award-winning magazine Maisonneuve. He lives in Montreal with his wife Saleema, also a writer, and two daughters, Vivienne, 15 and Larkin, almost 2. Gillian, born 1975, is an editor and the mother of a girl and a boy. She lives in Brookline, Mass with her husband Matt. Hilary, born 1977, manages a luxury country inn located in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, called Manoir Hovey, member of the group Relais et Chateaux. She and her husband who also works at the inn have one daughter; and two sons.

I've been an administrator, social advocate, educator, mother and wife; now I create outdoor art installations, lead garden tours to Europe and speak about garden design. Our garden has been written about widely and was featured on the History Channel (French version) in January, 2011. My husband and I lived in China during the Cultural Revolution, in England during the years of Margaret Thatcher, in Toronto as our children were growing up and in Montreal since 1989. During many of those years I was an active volunteer, promoting the teaching of French as a second language. I have two honourary doctorates recognizing that work and was awarded the Ordre de Merite by the government of France. Life has been good to me -- and it keeps getting better!

Like so many others, I remember Steve with great fondness. He was my first boyfriend and I grieved as only a 13 year old can do when he didn't send me a letter when I went off to camp. We reconnected at our 50th reunion and I was so glad to see him again and to meet Linda. It was clear then and in the emails that followed that they had a wonderful family life, living and loving fully. My condolences to all of his family and friends.
